Web desk: The Sindh government has announced today that the Karachi double-decker bus service will start on Wednesday.
Sindh Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon said the service would be a New Year gift for the people of the city.
The announcement was made during a ceremony held in Karachi to inaugurate the integration of the Orange Line and Green Line BRT services.
Karachi double-decker bus service routes
The Sindh Mass Transit Authority confirmed that the buses will operate on Shahrah-e-Faisal, running between Model Colony and Tower.
Each double-decker bus can accommodate around 115 to 120 passengers and comes with air conditioning.
Double-decker buses will run from Malir to Shara-e-Faisal; the fare for double-decker buses has been kept at the same level as the People’s Bus.
Memon said that currently, double-decker buses are being operated on a limited scale on an experimental basis.
In the first phase, double-decker buses will run from Malir to Shara-e-Faisal.
The buses are equipped with adjustable roof sections that can stay closed during hot or rainy weather. And be opened in pleasant conditions.
Orange Line and Green Line BRT
Sharjeel Memon visited the Orange Line depot in Orangi Town and briefed the media about ongoing transport projects.
“Today, we have inaugurated the project to integrate the Orange Line and Green Line BRT. Starting tomorrow, double-decker buses will begin operating on Karachi’s roads. Followed by the launch of new routes for Electric Vehicle (EV) buses,” Memon said.
“Furthermore, the People’s Bus Service is set to begin operations in Khairpur, Shikarpur, and Tando Allah Yar. All these projects are aimed at providing better facilities to the public,” Sharjeel said while speaking to reporters. He added that many more buses for Sindh were in the pipeline.
The minister said passengers had complained that they were forced to take another bus or rickshaw when the Orange Line route ended.
This caused extra travel costs and inconvenience. “Hence, the provincial government has decided to integrate the Orange Line and Green Line. Which means that one could travel on both these buses on the same card,” he said.
