Gold price in Pakistan drops on first trading day of 2026

Gold price in Pakistan

Gold prices in Pakistan slipped on the first trading day of 2026, extending a losing streak that has weighed on the local bullion market since the start of the week.

The price of 24-karat gold fell by Rs2,400 per tola, according to the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association. This took the new rate to Rs454,562 per tola, marking the first decline of the new year.

A similar trend was seen in smaller quantities. The price of 10 grammes of 24-karat gold dropped by Rs2,058 to Rs389,713, while 22-karat gold eased to Rs357,249 per 10 grammes.

Silver prices also moved lower. In the domestic market, 24-karat silver was sold at Rs7,635 per tola, down Rs83, while the price of 10 grammes slipped by Rs71 to Rs6,545.

Fourth straight fall this week

Thursday’s decline marked the fourth consecutive drop in gold prices since the beginning of the week.

At the start of the week, gold was priced at Rs470,162 per tola after a single-day fall of Rs5,500.

Overall, the price of gold has fallen by Rs21,100 per tola across four trading sessions, raising concerns among investors who had expected prices to remain firm at the start of the year.

Jewellers say the steady decline has cooled buying interest, with many customers choosing to wait and see whether prices stabilise in the coming days.

International market update

There will be no precious metals report on Thursday, January 1, as most global markets remain closed for the New Year holiday. International gold prices are expected to resume normal trading from Friday, January 2, 2026.

Globally, gold has been one of the standout performers over the past year. While many investors expected market shifts following Donald Trump’s return to power in the US, few anticipated the scale of the changes seen across asset classes.

World stock markets recovered from April’s sharp sell-off linked to new tariff announcements and ended 2025 up 21 percent.
