Lahore plans Pakistan’s first floating restaurant on Ravi canal

LAHORE: Lahore is ready to witness a new feature to its urban landscape, as the officials have planned to introduce the city’s first floating restaurant.

The completion date of the project is yet to be confirmed, but according to sources it will be completed by the end of 2026.

According to the project officials, the restaurant will be located at the branches of the canal connecting with the River Ravi, near Jallo Park.

The ship will be three-storeyed and designed to host around 200 people. It will be containing indoor luxurious dining areas. For the visitors who prefer to sit outside, open decks will also be offered.

The question of whether the restaurant will remain anchored at only one location or will it move along the canal is yet unclear. The officials, while answering this question, have said that options are being reviewed to determine what is the most suitable plan. We have to keep both the navigation limits and environmental conditions in mind.

Urban planners noted that Lahore has been a hub of several leisure and tourism projects; if the floating restaurant is completed as planned, it will be a landmark for the provincial capital as well as a way to promote tourism.

However, experts have raised concerns over long-term maintenance, water quality, and traffic management around the site.
