LAHORE: After the amendment in the Motor Vehicle Ordinance 2025, the crackdown against tinted vehicles was stopped in Lahore and all over Punjab.
The traffic police were stopped from taking action against the factory’s Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) tinted windows.
According to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic, the factory OEM tinted windows on the side screens and back screens of vehicles have been considered legal.
He said that it is now allowed according to traffic rules, so challans and cases will not be registered against any such case. Further, I have instructed the Punjab Traffic Police, including Lahore, in this regard.
Earlier, the traffic police were registering cases against vehicle owners.
Background to the Ordinance
The Provincial Motor Vehicles Ordinance 2025 was passed by the Governor of Punjab on November 25, 2025.
It encountered heavy fines ranging from Rs 2000 to Rs 50,000, and with prison sentences going up to 6 months, depending on the nature of the traffic offence.
Earlier, for having tinted windows, a prison sentence of up to 6 months and a fine of up to Rs 50,000 was implemented, which has now been declared.
The ordinance includes provisions such as making seat belts mandatory for both the driver and passengers.
Other provisions are a prison sentence of up to 6 months and a fine of up to Rs50,000 for minors driving motor vehicles.
For driving without a fitness certificate, a prison sentence of up to 6 months and a fine of up to Rs50,000. A fine of Rs 2000 will be imposed for riding a motorcycle without a helmet.
Other Clauses
For violating one-way traffic rules:
- Motorcyclists will be fined Rs2,000,
- three-wheelers: Rs3,000,
- regular cars: Rs5,000,
- luxury cars: Rs10,000, and
- transport vehicles: Rs15,000.
For habitual offenders, the penalty is up to 6 months in prison and a fine of up to Rs50,000.
Driving without a driver’s license:
- Motorcyclists will be fined Rs2,000,
- three-wheelers: Rs3,000,
- regular cars: Rs5,000,
- luxury cars: Rs10,000, and
- transport vehicles: Rs15,000
Violating zebra crossings:
- Motorcyclists will be fined Rs2,000,
- three-wheelers: Rs3,000,
- regular cars: Rs3,000,
- luxury cars: Rs8,000, and
- transport vehicles: Rs15,000.
Breaking traffic signals:
- Motorcyclists will be fined Rs2,000,
- three-wheelers: Rs3,000,
- regular cars: Rs5,000,
- luxury cars: Rs10,000, and
- transport vehicles: Rs15,000.
For speeding:
- Motorcyclists will be fined Rs2,000,
- three-wheelers: Rs3,000,
- regular cars: Rs5,000,
- luxury cars and transport vehicles: Rs20,000.
For driving with faulty lights at night:
- Motorcyclists will be fined Rs2,000,
- three-wheelers Rs3,000,
- regular cars Rs3,000,
- luxury cars Rs8,000, and
- transport vehicles Rs10,000.
