Pakistan will be exporting 143,000 tons of Halal meat to Tajikistan, worth $14.5 million.

The Ambassador of Tajikistan to Pakistan, Sharifzoda Toir, was hailed by the Leadership of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Chambers of Commerce on Monday for increasing exports in the potential area of “Halal Meat”.

President, Federation Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Atif Ikram Sheikh, while talking to the APP, said that vast opportunities in the “Halal Meat” sector will be beneficial to Pakistan.

He noted that Pakistan planned exports of 143,000 tons worth $14.5 million to Tajikistan. This would expand trade in halal products and would also increase overall trade between the two regional countries.

The bilateral trade could reach could reach $500 million in the coming years, according to the President of FPCCI. The business communities of both countries will be playing an important role in linking potential sectors.

Sardar Tahir Mehmood, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that for Pakistan, Tajikistan is an important trading partner and has potential in Pakistan ranging across different sectors, including agri-products and Halal trade.   

Yusuf Sharifzoda Toir, the ambassador of Tajikistan to Pakistan, has played a key role in increasing bilateral trade and providing a vision for the future of increasing the bilateral economic ties between both sides.

The current export focuses on Halal meat. The current primary objective is meet Tajikistan’s demand. Initially, Tajikistan expressed interest in around 100,000 tons of halal meat.

The President of ICCI stated that it is part of the broader plan which seeks to increase Pakistan-Tajikistan bilateral trade up to $500 million, through better logistics, trade facilitation and preferential trade agreements.

Around 6 million metric tons of halal meat is produced by Pakistan annually. A lot of surplus is available for export after meeting domestic needs.

The trade with Tajikistan will push Pakistan into the Central Asian markets.
