Sydney Sixers teammates Babar Azam and Steve Smith were highlighted in a viral moment during their Big Bash League (BBL) match against Sydney Thunder while defending the boundary. Smith and Babar rushed towards the ball from opposite directions. For a moment, both players hesitated, and the ball rolled to the boundary. The players created laughter in the commentary box, with one commentator jokingly shouting, “Get out of the way, Babar!”
In the match on Friday, during the 16th over, Nic Maddinson hit a straight shot high over the umpire’s head.
Both Smith and Babar rushed towards the ball from opposite directions, long-off and long-on. For a moment, both players hesitated, and the ball rolled to the boundary, leaving commentators amused by the confusion. On the very next delivery, Maddinson tried the same shot again, but this time Smith cut it off, asking Babar to hold back as he completed the stop himself. This causes a funny moment between the commentators, and one of them shouted, Get out of the way, Babar.
Frustration in the middle
Earlier in the match, there was a more serious moment between the two star batters. Babar appeared visibly frustrated when Smith chose not to take a quick single on the final ball of the 11th over. Babar, who had faced several dot balls, seemed eager to rotate the strike, but Smith did not move.
Babar Azam was not looking very happy at the move taken by Steve Smith. Yet, the team was able to defeat the Sydney Thunder, who scored 189 for six out, with David Warner making an unbeaten 110 runs.
In response, the Sixers reached the target with five wickets remaining. Smith scored 100 off 42 balls, while Babar contributed 47 from 39 deliveries.”
Speaking before the season, Babar said he was looking forward to learning from Smith and gaining experience in Australian conditions. Despite the on-field moments of confusion and frustration, the partnership continues to show progress in the tournament.
