PCB Chairman Naqvi pushes for higher player compensation

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has strongly advocated for an increase in players’ compensation during a recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) Governing Council meeting.

According to media reports, Naqvi urged franchise owners to raise players’ salaries in light of the rising market value of PSL teams. He emphasised that, as team valuations have increased significantly, players should also benefit financially from the league’s growth.

During the meeting, the PCB chairman proposed introducing an auction-style system for players, similar to the auction process used for teams. He suggested that players be auctioned during the PSL 11 draft, allowing franchises to select players freely, a move he believes would enhance player earnings and overall transparency.

Naqvi stressed the importance of providing equal opportunities to the two newly added PSL teams when selecting players. He highlighted the need for a level playing field to ensure competitive balance across the league.

Meanwhile, the PSL working committee is expected to take up discussions related to player retentions by existing franchises in an upcoming meeting.

The Governing Council meeting, chaired by Mohsin Naqvi, was attended by representatives of all eight franchises, along with PCB and PSL officials. During the session, the owners of the two new PSL teams were formally welcomed, and congratulations were exchanged between the PCB chairman and franchise owners on the successful auction of the new teams.
