The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has launched an artificial intelligence system to predict crimes in Lahore by using data from past years.
The new system has already begun working successfully, identifying hotspots and forecasting possible incidents up to 24 hours in advance.
Officials say the project marks an important step towards modern policing in Punjab.
AI Crime Prediction System in Lahore
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said that the AI system will allow resources to be distributed more effectively at the police station level. He pointed out that Lahore has recorded a major reduction in crime in the past two years.
Between 2023 and 2025, crime dropped by 77 per cent, with the number of cases falling from 80,000 to 18,500.
In September 2025, crime fell by 82 per cent compared with earlier figures. Kamran also highlighted that robbery, snatching and theft cases fell by more than 90 per cent, while crime-related calls to helpline 15 dropped by 55 per cent.
He said that these results were made possible through the combined use of Safe City cameras, field intelligence and community policing, which together have made Lahore safer.
The DIG added that the main challenge now is to keep the crime rate low in the future. For this, the police are moving away from a reactive model towards preventive policing.
Additionally, the AI system is not meant to replace human policing but to support it, according to him. The technology will assist officers in patrolling and improve quick response times.
He stressed that reducing crime is a joint success of the police and the people of Lahore. With the use of technology alongside experience, Faisal Kamran expressed confidence that the city will continue to become safer.
