Shoaib Malik

Famous Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik has announced his retirement from the Pakistan Super League (PSL), ending a decade-long association with the country’s premier T20 tournament.

In a statement shared on his personal Instagram account, Malik talked about his time in the league. He said that: “I cherish every single moment and friendship I have made on and off the field throughout my 10 years in the Pakistan Super League as a player. It’s time to call it a day. However, my passion and motivation to serve for the betterment of cricket will always stay, Thank You PSL.”

Career in the PSL

Since the PSL’s inaugural season in 2016, Malik has played for four franchises: Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, and Quetta Gladiators. He scored 2,350 runs by playing in 93 matches, at an average of 33.09 and a strike rate of 127.78, including 15 half-centuries. He also contributed as a part-time off-spinner.

Malik’s retirement comes as the league prepares for its 11th edition, which will feature eight teams, including two new additions, Hyderabad and Sialkot. The tournament is scheduled to run from 26 March to 3 May, with Lahore Qalandars defending their title.

Overall performance in the Pakistan cricket

Malik not just performed well in PSL, but also gave an excellent performance in the National cricket. He was part of Pakistan’s 2009 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup-winning squad and captained the national team across all formats. Even after retiring from international cricket, he remained active in global T20 leagues, playing a total of 557 T20 matches, scoring 13,571 runs and taking 187 wickets.

Throughout the PSL’s growth from matches in the UAE to a fully home-based tournament, Malik remained a consistent presence. His experience and leadership made him a respected figure in Pakistani cricket, both on and off the field.
