Apple appears to be preparing a subtle but noticeable change to the front of its next flagship phones, with fresh leaks suggesting a smaller Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro models.
Display analyst Ross Young has backed recent claims that Apple plans to shrink the Dynamic Island rather than remove it altogether. The change would come from moving part of the Face ID system under the display, allowing more screen space without a dramatic redesign.
For months, reports around the iPhone 18 Pro’s front design have been mixed. Some leaks pointed to a hole-punch camera in the top-left corner, while others suggested Face ID would move fully under the screen. The latest details now offer a clearer picture.
Chinese leaker Instant Digital said only one Face ID component, the infrared flood illuminator, is expected to shift under the display. This part would sit near the top-left area of the screen but remain invisible to users. The other key components, including the dot projector, infrared camera and selfie camera, would stay centred inside a smaller, pill-shaped Dynamic Island.
Ross Young said this explanation matches what he hinted at in a report last year. He previously noted that while some Face ID elements would move under the display on the iPhone 18 Pro, Apple would still keep visible sensors, meaning the Dynamic Island would remain but in a reduced form.
Another well-known leaker, ShrimpApplePro, has also supported this view. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had reported a similar partial move of Face ID components in earlier coverage.
This directly challenges a recent report by The Information, which claimed Apple would move the selfie camera to the top-left corner and remove the Dynamic Island entirely. According to Instant Digital, that report may have misunderstood supply chain details, confusing internal sensor changes with visible design changes.
Beyond the display, there is growing agreement on memory upgrades. Several analysts, including Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu, expect all iPhone 18 models to feature 12GB of RAM. That would include the standard iPhone 18, the Pro models and Apple’s rumoured foldable device.
The iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to launch in September. If the latest leaks are accurate, users should expect a cleaner display, faster performance and a familiar design that quietly evolves rather than radically changes.
