The Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi on Saturday said that the federal government would take the final decision regarding Pakistan’s participation in the forthcoming T20 World Cup.
Talking to media persons in Lahore, Naqvi said the government was waiting for the return of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, after which a final decision would be taken in this respect.
Responding to a question, the interior minister clarified that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had prepared multiple contingency plans. He said the PCB had plans A, B, and C, which would be implemented in line with the prevailing situation.
Answering another question, he stated Bangladesh is being abused; this is a double standard, one country cannot dictate to anyone.
Chairman (PCB) has made it clear that no country can dictate terms to another, stating that the final decision rests with the ICC. He said Pakistan has its own stance and will stand by it, adding that the government will ultimately decide whether Pakistan participates in the World Cup.
Regarding the player’s fraud issue, he stated that players have not contacted him and added that if they approach him, a decision will be made accordingly. Referring to Bangladesh, he said that the country is being unfairly criticised and should definitely be part of the World Cup.
He reiterated that the PCB’s decision will align with the government’s stance, noting that the board is more accountable to the government than to the ICC. He also said that the PCB is working with the Punjab government to upgrade cricket grounds and improve stadium facilities.
