The 38-kilometre road from Baanth to Thalian will include a new Thalian Interchange connecting it to the Motorway to manage traffic flow and avoid congestion.

The project is now expected to be completed by the end of April after the Punjab Planning and Development Board approves the revised PC-I which escalates the cost to Rs53 billion.

The revised PC-I accounts for the construction of the Thalian Interchange flood mitigation measures and higher construction material costs. The Frontier Works Organisation will begin work on the interchange once the PC-I is approved.

Authorities have also started installing state-of-the-art signboards planting six- to eight-foot trees along the road and completing procurement of lights.

Officials say the project will facilitate smoother traffic movement for over 18,000 vehicles entering the Motorway daily and improve safety with modern flood prevention measures.

Earlier Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced the opening of Shaheen Chowk a major development project in Islamabad aimed at improving traffic flow and urban infrastructure.

Minister Naqvi said the Shaheen, Chowk Murree Road underpass, Serena Chowk and Business Station Centre projects were successfully completed this year. The Capital Development Authority (CDA), contractors and other relevant agencies jointly ensured timely completion.

“Projects are being opened immediately to benefit the public and improve traffic movement,” Naqvi said. He noted that dozens of development projects were completed this year with a focus on quality, durability and maintaining the city’s aesthetic appeal.

Naqvi added that work on repairing damaged roads and restoring infrastructure is continuing. Under the Vision 2027 plan, detailed strategies for projects over the next two years are being finalised, with an emphasis on increasing the number and scale of development initiatives.
