To preserve public decency and maintain law and order during Basant celebrations, the Punjab government has banned the playing of 132 Punjabi songs. An official notification warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating the order.
The banned list includes popular songs such as ‘Kundi na kharka Soniya sidha andar aa’, ‘Aaj khulde aang aang mera ve”, and “Aisi kudiya shahar diya”.
According to an official notification, the listed songs are prohibited from being played at public or private gatherings, on rooftops, at commercial venues, or during any Basant-related activities. Authorities have warned that legal action will be taken against anyone found violating the ban under relevant laws.
Officials said the decision was made to curb the playing of songs containing objectionable, suggestive, or inappropriate lyrics during public celebrations.
Basant celebrations in Punjab have historically been sensitive due to safety concerns, including incidents related to kite flying, prompting authorities to enforce strict regulations each year. The list of banned songs is placed as under.

It is mentioned here that earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had approved the three-day Basant Festival. While addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that she has come to bring happiness to the people of Punjab.
She said that the atmosphere of joy had been taken away from the people of Punjab and replaced with fights, disputes, and unrest. Punjab is the land of heartfelt celebrations, yet its people had been deprived of entertainment.
The Chief Minister added that after 30 years, the Horse and Cattle Show had been revived in Punjab, and it will also be celebrated this year. She emphasised that everyone has the right to celebrate happiness freely in Punjab, which belongs to all its citizens.
