DC Lahore issues 12-point code of conduct for Basant in Lahore from Feb 6 to 8

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore has issued a 12-point code of conduct for Basant which is to be held from February 6 to 8.

The code of conduct was formulated on the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz as part of comprehensive security measures.

The district administration, police and other relevant departments were ordered to implement the guidelines on a first priority basis.

The new code of conduct will apply to all places in Lahore, including buildings and rooftops. Strict action will be taken against the violation of the Kite Flying Act with district officers and police authorized to inspect all rooftops.

The 12-point code was issued to ensure protection of all citizens during Basant.

New guidelines

According to the code, a zero-tolerance policy will take effect against the use of hazardous strings and aerial firing. The use of metal, chemical and nylon strings is strictly prohibited to ensure maximum security.

All motorbike riders in Lahore have been advised to install safety rods on their vehicles. DC Lahore also called for the ban of sound systems that disturb public peace for the festival.

The guidelines further state that kite flying along with sensitive installations near the airport will not be allowed. Rooftop owners will be held accountable in the event of any potential accident.

The use of unsafe rooftops has also been strictly prohibited.

According to DC Lahore, all available resources will be utilized to make Basant safe along with a ban on selling and using dangerous strings.

The authorities also stated that any individual found violating the 12-point code of conduct will be subject to immediate FIR and strict action.

Residents of the city including parents and guardians have been advised to supervise their children during the kite flying festival to prevent any tragic accidents.

The city will be closely monitored through surveillance systems installed at different locations throughout the festival. The commissioner has also urged citizens to cooperate with the authorities to ensure security.
