Audio leak reveals PTI infighting over recent sit-in

An alleged audio leak of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram has surfaced, shedding light on internal disagreements within the party regarding a recent sit-in.

In the audio, Akram reportedly revealed that several members of the National Assembly did not attend the sit-in to meet former prime minister Imran Khan, according to media reports.

He attributed the confusion to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi stated that the party members should have been informed the night before about the gathering.

Waqas Akram described the last-minute instructions for lawmakers to arrive immediately as ‘unreasonable,” noting that many reside in remote areas and do not have access to helicopters for swift travel.

He added that if a sit-in had been planned, the party should have ensured the participation of its 90 MPAs.

The leak highlights ongoing organisational challenges within PTI and raises questions about coordination among its leadership and parliamentary members.

Meanwhile, Senator Humayun Mohmand, in a TV channel program, stated that if any PTI leader had information about Imran Khan’s medical examination and still kept this matter hidden from the rest of the PTI leadership, then it falls into the category of a very serious offence.

In my opinion, if they had prior knowledge, why was it not disclosed? “Some matters can be kept private, but there are others that should not be kept secret. When there was a serious concern about my leader’s health and eyesight, and you did not inform us and kept us in the dark, this is irresponsible behaviour,” he reiterated.

On the other hand, Former Provincial Minister, Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan has claimed that the spouse of PTI founder Imran Khan,Bushra Bibi, gave a formal written permission before Imran Khan was shifted to PIMS Hospital.

He also stated that the decision seemed necessary according to the laws.

According to the former minister, Imran Khan‘s family comprises his wife and children. Considering the fact that the children reside abroad, it only made sense to take permission from his wife. All legal requirements were met.

He also revealed that, upon the insistence of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s sisters were not informed of the matter.

Fayyaz-ul-Hassan further claimed that Imran Khan was apprehensive about a potential crowd gathering upon the news of his visit to PIMS and that there would have been a risk of contracting a disease or virus due to the crowd.
