Weather today: NDMA issues alert for rain, snowfall

The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert for several parts of the country.

According to it, rain and snowfall are expected from February 8 to 10 in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan (GB) and Azad Kashmir.

Weather in Punjab

According to the advisory, most areas of Punjab are likely to receive rain. Especially on February 9 and 10. Snowfall is also expected in Murree and nearby hill areas.

Rain may affect Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khushab, Jhang, Narowal and Sialkot.

Southern districts of Punjab may also face hailstorms along with strong winds during this period.

Weather in KP

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain is expected in many districts from February 9 to 10. Snowfall is likely in high-altitude areas such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Malakand, Kurram, Waziristan, Mansehra, Mohmand, Buner, Haripur, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Karak, Bannu and Kohat.

Weather in GB

Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are also expected to receive rain during the same days. Snowfall is likely in their upper and mountainous regions.

The NDMA warned that rain and snowfall could make roads slippery and disrupt traffic.

People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and take safety steps. Relevant departments have been told to stay ready for rescue work and road clearing.

The NEOC said it is sharing early warnings with the public and authorities. Citizens have been urged to follow official updates and safety instructions through the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App.
