Former head of Multan Sultans Ali Tareen is again in the headlines after a fallout with the PCB earlier, but fans are wondering if he is buying the Multan Sultans again for Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The auction date for Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans was officially announced on February 4, 2026. According to the post at X, PSL officials have confirmed the auction of the Multan Sultans franchise to be held in Lahore on February 9, 2026.

Ali Tareen said, “We have submitted our papers, and we are one of the qualified bidders for the team. But I want everyone to have realistic expectations and temper them. It’s not a given that I will go for Multan Sultans at any cost.”

“It has been a privilege to own Multan Sultans for seven years. It has been one of the highlights of my life. I love PSL and being part of it, whether I’m in the stands or in the dugout. Maybe I’m a little happier being in the dugout,” he added.

“If we are getting the team at a good price, then definitely we will buy it. But buying at any cost is not the plan,” he added.

Tareen concluded by thanking fans for their continued support and enthusiasm for his potential return as Multan Sultans owner, while again stressing the importance of keeping expectations realistic ahead of the auction.

The base price of the Multan Sultans franchise has been set at Rs. 1.8 billion. The figure reflects the growing commercial value of the PSL, following the recent sale of the Hyderabad and Sialkot franchises for Rs. 1.75 billion and Rs. 1.85 billion, respectively.

Ali Tareen asks fans to keep ‘realistic expectations’ for Multan Sultans auction

Former Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen earlier said he will not spend any amount to take back the franchise at the upcoming auction on February 9.

Tareen is one of the five bidders approved by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) bid committee. He shared a video on the social media platform Instagram to confirm that he will take part in the auction.

He asked fans to keep their expectations realistic. He said he will only buy the team if the price suits him.

“Hey guys, so tomorrow is Multan Sultans’ auction, and I want to make this video just so everyone understands where my mind’s at, what’s the mindset,” he said.

“We have submitted our papers, and we are one of the qualified bidders for the team,” Tareen further added in the video message.

“But I want everyone to have more realistic expectations and temper their expectations. Because it’s not a given that tomorrow I will go to Multan Sultan at any cost. It has been a privilege to own Multan Sultans for seven years. We’ve been part of it. It’s been one of the highlights of my life,” he stated.

“But now, to go in with the expectation that I’m going to go into a bidding war or I’m going to buy it at any cost, this is not the case. I love PSL, I love being part of it, whether I’m in the stands or in the dugout, I’m equally happy. Maybe I’m a little happier being in the dugout,” Tareen said.

“If we are getting the team at a good price, then definitely we will buy it. But buying at any cost, this is not the plan,”

Multan Sultans currently do not have a permanent owner. This happened after the 10th edition of the PSL, when Ali Tareen chose not to extend the 10-year ownership deal.

PCB Suspend Multan Sultans’ PSL Contract

Previously, the PCB suspended the PSL franchise, Multan Sultans, after a formal termination notice was issued over an alleged breach of contract.

According to reports from private media outlets citing sources, the decision was made after Multan Sultans’ owner Ali Tareen publicly criticised PCB policies, which allegedly prompted disciplinary action from the board.

Sources said the franchise has received a suspension notice and a termination warning for allegedly violating contractual terms.
