Pakistan’s upcoming match against Namibia is crucial for their survival in the T20 World Cup, as they need a convincing victory.
India’s national cricket team handed arch-rivals Pakistan a crushing 61-run defeat in their World Cup clash in Colombo, leaving the Green Shirts on the brink of a first-round exit.
India has comfortably secured qualification for the Super Eight stage with three consecutive victories. Meanwhile, both the USA and Pakistan have registered two wins each, but the Americans hold the second spot with a superior net run rate of 0.788. Pakistan trail behind with a net run rate of -0.403, putting their campaign in a precarious position.
The heavy loss, coupled with the United States (US) national cricket team victory over Namibia national cricket team, has significantly dented Pakistan’s net run rate, pushing them down to third place in Group A.
Pakistan are scheduled to face Namibia on Wednesday, February 18, in what has now become a must-win encounter. To secure a place in the Super Eight stage, the Green Shirts not only need victory but also require a convincing margin to improve their run rate and leapfrog the USA in the standings.
An upset defeat against Namibia would spell immediate elimination for Pakistan, ending their World Cup journey in the group stage. In that scenario, the United States would advance to the Super Eight alongside India.
There remains another possible twist. If rain forces the abandonment of Pakistan’s final group match, they would earn one point. That would take them to five points in total, enough to move into second place in Group A and qualify for the Super Eight stage with India. With qualification hanging in the balance, all eyes will now be on Pakistan’s crucial showdown against Namibia.
