Pakistan is playing Namibia in a must-win group-stage game of the T20 World Cup and the pressure couldn’t be greater.
A win for Pakistan would mean six points, and they would become the second position in Group A, thereby qualifying for the Super Stage.
For the team, every single run and wicket in this match could be the deciding factor for their survival in the tournament.
Weather Poses a Challenge
However, weather may play the decisive factor. The Meteorological Department has forecasted 60% chance rains within Colombo.
At the moment, thunderstorms and intermittent showers are being reported in the area, with temperatures at 29 C, although with the humidity it feels like 30 C.
Winds from the north are blowing at speed of 19 km/h and gusts up to 37 km/h.
Pakistan’s way to the Super Stage
If the match is washed out, Pakistan would still receive 1 point for the match making its total points 5. This would be sufficient for them to progress to the Super Stage as they would then be ahead of the United States by one point.
Cricket analysts have called the situation tense with performance on the field and weather conditions equivocal to determine the outcome.
Historic Place and Free Admission
The match is to be played at the iconic Sinhalese Sports Club Ground (SSC) in Colombo, where the first match of the tournament had been played earlier.
This encounter will be the final match at this ground for the World Cup.
In an effort to boost fan participation, Sri Lanka Cricket has declared that spectators will not be required to have tickets.
Gates 5 and 7 will open up at 1:00 PM local time with the match starting officially at 3:00 PM.
Officials hope that this initiative will let as many fans of the cricket sport as possible see this high-stakes game live.
