A new Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise based in Rawalpindi has announced its official name ahead of the PSL 11.
The team will be called Pindiz, ending weeks of speculation about the identity of the new side in the expanded eight-team league.
The name was revealed in a 25-second teaser video released on social media.
The clip featured aerial shots of Rawalpindi, quick-cut city visuals and scattered letters that gradually formed the team’s name.
The franchise also confirmed the announcement in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Teaser campaign and branding
In the video, phrases such as “We’re bold” and “We’re changing the game” appeared on screen as part of the branding message.
“Team Rawalpindi’s official franchise name is here. We’re bold. We’re challenging. We’re bringing the vibe. We’re changing the game,” the franchise wrote in the caption accompanying the video.
The clip ended with the words “To be continued,” alongside a message that the official logo will be unveiled next.
Owner Ahsan Tahir described the name as “simple, clean, and powerful.” He said the aim was to adopt a one-word identity that reflects the city’s nickname, Pindi.
Mixed reaction from fans
The announcement quickly drew mixed responses online. Some supporters welcomed the short, punchy name, while others criticised it, calling it one of the weaker names in the league’s history.
The debate soon spread across social media platforms, where users shared jokes and memes about the branding.
Tahir responded to criticism by urging supporters to back the team. He also pushed back against what he described as coordinated negative comments, while promoting hashtags such as #PindiBoy to build local support.
Record purchase, strong squad
The Rawalpindi franchise was acquired by Walee Technologies for Rs2.45bn at the PSL auction held at the Expo Centre in Lahore earlier this month.
The purchase followed a reworking of the former Multan Sultans slot in the league structure.
Despite the debate around the name, the team enters PSL 11 with a strong squad. It is expected to retain a core that includes captain Mohammad Rizwan and fast bowler Naseem Shah.
PSL 11 is scheduled to run from March 26 to May 3, 2026.
With the name now confirmed, attention is likely to turn to the team’s logo and kit design, which the franchise says will be revealed soon.
