England has defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the 49th match of the Super Eights Group.
New Zealand scored 159 runs in 20 overs, and England achieved the target of 160 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 6 wickets.
New Zealand decided to bat and scored 64 runs with a fast batting in the early overs, but the team had to restore balance after losing the first wicket soon.
Tim Seifert scored 35 runs, and Finn Allen played a brilliant innings of 29 runs, while Glenn Phillips stood out with 39 runs, Mark Chapman scored 15 runs, Daryl Mitchell scored 3 runs, and captain Mitchell Santner remained not out with 9 runs, Cole McConchie helped the team get closer to the target until the last over with the help of 14 runs.
For England, Adil Rashid and Orville Jacks took two wickets each, while Liam Dawson and Rehan Ahmed also took two wickets each to keep the New Zealand batting line under pressure. Jafra Acher, Sam Curran and Jacob Bathill were the other bowlers who made an impact.
This match is part of the Super Eights stage of the T20 World Cup, and both teams are determined to reach the semi-finals.
On the other hand, the 50th match of the Super Eights will be played tomorrow in Pallekele, where Sri Lanka and Pakistan will face each other.
After England’s victory, Pakistan’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals are still alive. If Pakistan defeats Sri Lanka, the semi-finalists will be decided based on net run rate.
