Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, while addressing Afghan Taliban Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, said that although Pakistan respects its guests, no one is allowed to misuse our hospitality.
He further said that Pakistan will never allow anyone to use its soil for terror attacks.
Strong statement by the Defence Minister
In his post at X, Khawaja Asif said that Pakistan had also adopted an attitude of cooperation and hospitality with Afghanistan and related groups in the past.
He said that during the war against the Soviet Union, the two sides had worked together and shared common goals at that time.
The Defence Minister further said that after 9/11, Pakistan was also accused of being a facilitator of the Haqqani network.
He asked Sirajuddin Haqqani how much truth there was in the accusation, saying he should explain it to the world himself.
Khawaja Asif said Pakistan wants peace in the region and had also made reconciliation efforts in Mecca to reduce tensions between the parties, but those efforts did not produce the desired results.
He said Pakistan has always tried to play a positive role and even offered financial help if it was needed, but no firm guarantees were given in return.
The Defence Minister also said that the Haqqani name is associated with a respected elder figure, and that it should be treated with respect and care.
Current Pak-Afghan war scenario
The development comes amid increased tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan following recent cross-border incidents.
Pakistan has repeatedly accused militant groups of carrying out attacks from Afghan territory.
The Afghan Taliban authorities have denied allowing their soil to be used against Pakistan.
