Former Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani passes away

KARACHI: Former speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Agha Siraj Durrani, 72, has passed away in Karachi on Wednesday.

As per details, Agha Siraj Durrani passed away at the age of 72 while he was under treatment at a private hospital in Karachi.

The senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader earlier suffered a brain haemorrhage a month ago and was hospitalised since then.

His condition deteriorated few days ago, however he breathed his last on, doctors confirmed on Wednesday.

The 72-year-old, one of the senior-most leaders of the PPP, was born on October 5, 1953 in Shikarpur. He received his early education from St Patrick’s High School and later obtained a law degree (LLB) from Sindh Muslim Government Law College.

The late Durrani was elected twice as Speaker of the Sindh Assembly and held the position from May 31, 2013, to May 24, 2024. He also served as acting Governor of Sindh from March to October 2022.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed grief over the death of former Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani.

The prime minister, in a statement, paid tribute to late Agha Siraj Durrani for his services as the Sindh Assembly speaker, saying that his contributions to politics and public welfare would always be remembered.

He prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased soul and strength for the bereaved family to bear the loss.

President Asif Ali Zardari

President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday expressed his deep grief over the passing of former Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani.

Paying tribute to his political and public services, the president said that the late Agha Siraj Durrani played a significant role in promoting democratic values.

He prayed to Allah Almighty for peace for the departed soul and also expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
