Pakistani actress Maya Ali has raised concerns regarding the rationale behind the increasing fuel prices, stating that this decision places additional strain on individuals who are already facing challenges due to inflation during the sacred month of Ramadan.
In a series of posts on Instagram, the actress expressed her awareness that challenging times may arise amid economic or political instability.
She urged both the authorities and the public to take into account the difficulties faced by daily wage workers.
“I recognise that we are in a state of war and that such times are accompanied by hardships,” she stated.
“However, we must also consider those whose livelihoods rely on daily wages, particularly those who own a bike and work tirelessly each day to provide for their families”, she added.
Maya Ali calls for support for poor families amid rising costs
Maya Ali pointed out that numerous families are already struggling to cope with escalating costs and called for some form of assistance during Ramadan.
“There ought to be some support for those who are in distress, especially during Ramadan.
For many households, their salaries or daily earnings simply do not suffice,” she remarked, emphasising that many individuals cannot afford to remain at home as they must continue to work to sustain their families.
In another post, the actress also questioned the government’s rationale concerning fuel reserves.
“When the government claims that petrol and diesel reserves are only sufficient for a few days, how does raising the price suddenly resolve the issue?” she asked.
“If there is an insufficient supply of petrol, will increasing the prices magically enhance the availability?” Maya Ali noted that individuals are already grappling with rising inflation and daily costs, highlighting that many expect relief during Ramadan rather than facing further financial burdens.
“People are already battling with ‘mehngai’ and everyday expenses. In this holy month, individuals look forward to some relief, not additional pressure,” she concluded her message with the question: “Matlab aur kitna?”
