Pakistan Nepal relations
Nepal and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan maintain outstanding bilateral relations. Diplomatic ties between the two nations were established on 20 March 1960.
In 1962, Nepal opened a residential Embassy in Islamabad and later established an Honorary Nepali Consulate General in Karachi in 1975.
The relationship between the two countries is founded on goodwill, mutual cooperation, and friendship.
Both governments share similar perspectives on numerous issues of common interest and collaborate closely in various international and regional forums, including the UN, NAM, and SAARC.
Recently, a Bilateral Consultation Mechanism at the Foreign Secretary level had been instituted to assess the bilateral relations.
The fourth round of these consultations took place in Islamabad in February 2020.
In the past, to enhance economic relations between the two nations, the Nepal-Pakistan Joint Economic Commission (JEC) was established at the Finance Ministers’ level in 1983.
The JEC discusses issues related to Trade and Commerce, Banking and Finance, Agriculture and Livestock, Energy, Health, Education, Culture, Tourism, Telecom and ICT, and civil aviation, among other topics.
The 6th Meeting of the JEC was convened in Islamabad in August 2013.
