A more impacting infrastructure plan, meant to ease traffic congestion in Rawalpindi is well on its way to completion as authorities there have confirmed that major roadworks sticky points in Kutchery Chowk will be completed prior to Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Rs14 billion remodelling project is being executed by the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) which is currently working towards finalising road construction across flyovers and underpasses newly built. Authorities say work is underway and the project has already been completed to almost 70 per cent.

During the recent inspection experts of National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) carried out technical review of the project along with the FWO officials. The team reviewed traffic flow plans structural pieces as well as quality control procedures to ensure the development will work to effectively reduce congestion once it is operational.

Officials also tested the movement of heavy vehicles as well as public transport such as the smooth transition of electric buses through U-turns and connecting routes. Minor modification designs were proposed for improving the movement of Traffic in the area.

Meanwhile the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has started beautification works around the site. Tree plantation green belts and the setting up of lampposts are in progress for beautifying the surroundings of the flyovers and underpasses.

Authorities say it is hoped that the project will greatly improve traffic conditions at one of the city’s busiest intersections once finishing work is done in the coming weeks.
