PM: Pakistan and Iran discuss regional tensions over phone call

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, on Wednesday, engaged in a phone conversation to discuss current regional tensions along with Pakistan stance on diplomatic efforts for Iran.

During the phone conversation, PM conveyed his concerns about the recent escalations in the region, emphasising that Pakistan views diplomatic dialogue as crucial for achieving peace, stability, and de-escalation.

He further highlighted the necessity for all involved parties to exhibit restraint and responsibility to avert any further aggravation of the situation.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that Pakistan places significant value on its historical, religious, and cultural connections with Iran and aims to enhance bilateral collaboration between the two nations.

He reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to improving engagement and cooperation with Iran across all levels.

In response, President Pezeshkian affirmed Iran’s commitment to fortifying its relations with Pakistan and stated that both countries should collaborate to foster peace and stability in the region.

Pakistani citizens return from Iran amid escalating tensions

Earlier, in light of the escalating situation in Iran, Pakistani officials intensified their initiatives to repatriate citizens of Pakistan via border crossings in Balochistan, especially at Taftan and Gabd Ramdan.

According to government officials, over 3,200 Pakistani nationals have returned from Iran in the last ten days, with a considerable number of students among those returning to the country.

Authorities further indicated that the repatriation process is being coordinated through the primary entry points at Taftan and Gabd Ramdan, where they are ensuring the secure transit of citizens amidst the prevailing regional unrest.
