Baal statues set ablaze in Iran
Several Baal statues were set on fire on February 11 in Iran during state organised revolutionary rallies.
The burnings, which some reports indicate occurred at the same time in various cities, were characterised by organisers as a symbolic demonstration connected to the resurgence of online conspiracy theories regarding the late financier Jeffrey Epstein and alleged child exploitation by Western elites.
The Iranian news agency Mehr further stated that the statue symbolised “the idol of Baal,” which religious texts depict as a false deity linked to straying from monotheism.
Participants, who were heard chanting “Death to Israel” and “Death to America,” expressed that the act represented a stand against what they referred to as corrupt Western systems and Zionist ideology.
