A new leak has suggested that Apple may not reduce the size of the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro series, raising fresh questions about the company’s plans for future iPhone displays.
The claim comes from known tipster Digital Chat Station, who said the upcoming models could keep the same Dynamic Island design seen on recent iPhones. This runs against earlier rumours that suggested Apple might introduce a smaller version of the feature in its 2026 flagship phones.
The Dynamic Island is the pill shaped cutout at the top of the screen that houses the front camera and Face ID sensors. Apple introduced it with the iPhone 14 Pro models, turning the space into an interactive area for alerts and background activities.
If the new leak is accurate, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max may not bring major changes to the display. The tipster also claimed that Apple could reuse much of the design and chassis from the iPhone 17 Pro series.
That could mean the overall look of the phones remains largely the same, at least from the front.
However, some internal changes may still be on the way. Separate reports have suggested that the iPhone 18 Pro Max could become the thickest iPhone Apple has made so far. The extra thickness is believed to be linked to a larger battery and a new camera system that may include a variable aperture lens.
Despite these claims, the wider picture remains unclear. Earlier leaks had pointed to a different direction for Apple’s future display plans.
Some reports said the company was preparing to move Face ID sensors under the screen. Under that idea, the iPhone 18 series would have used an in display Face ID system along with a small hole punch cutout for the front camera. The cutout was also expected to move to the corner of the screen, while the Dynamic Island would become smaller.
The latest information suggests those changes may be delayed.
That delay could have an impact on another widely discussed project. Apple is reportedly preparing a major redesign for the iPhone in 2027, which will mark the device’s 20th anniversary.
Several leaks have suggested the anniversary model could feature a near all glass design with both Face ID and the selfie camera hidden under the display. If Apple postpones the under display Face ID technology, it raises questions about whether the company will introduce both hidden components at the same time.
For now, the rumours remain mixed, and Apple has not confirmed any details.
More clues could arrive in September, when the company is expected to unveil its next generation of iPhones. Reports have also suggested that Apple could introduce its first foldable iPhone around the same time.
