Pakistan security forces on Friday shot down three rudimentary drones allegedly used by militants linked to Afghan Fitna-al-Khawarij in Kohat.
According to security sources, the drones attempted to target areas in Kohat district. Forces detected the devices early and brought them down before they could reach their intended targets.
Officials said the drones were crude in design but posed a potential security threat. Debris from the downed drones fell in a nearby locality, injuring two civilians. Both were shifted to hospital for medical treatment.
Security sources claimed the militants involved were backed by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan administration in neighbouring Afghanistan.
Authorities said Pakistan’s security forces remain on high alert against any terrorist threat. They warned that any attack traced back to Afghan soil would invite a strong response.
Earlier in the wee hours of Friday, the Pakistani forces struck hard at Kandahar Airport, Afghanistan to destroy the key militant infrastructure and command centres.
The Pakistan Air Force carried out bombing strikes on key terrorist training centres in Kabul, Khost, and Kandahar.
The reports indicate that the Taliban regime had been sheltering senior commanders and fighters of banned terrorist groups such as the TTP, Al-Qaeda, ISIS, BLA, Gul Bahadur Group, and others at these centres.
Pakistani strikes reportedly targeted the 205th Al-Badr Corps headquarters in Kandahar, which is a key military command centre of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
Reports say several Taliban members were killed or injured in the strike.
