Shawwal’s moon not sighted; Eid to be celebrated on Saturday

The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee has announced on Thursday that the first day of Eid ul Fitr will fall on Saturday, March 21, after the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has convened an important meeting of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee to sight the Shawwal 1447 AH moon, marking Eid ul Fitr.

Meeting held at the Ministry’s office in Kohsar Block, Pak Secretariat, Constitution Avenue, Islamabad. Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, chaired the meeting.

Alongside the central session, zonal and district Ruet-i-Hilal Committees have also met at their respective headquarters across the country.

Earlier authorities have urged the public to report any moon sighting by providing testimony or relevant information to the committee.

The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee meeting was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad to sight the Shawwal moon. Zonal committee meetings were also held in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta; however, no evidence of moon sighting was received from any location.

In addition to the members of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, representatives from the Meteorological Department and SUPARCO also participated in the meeting.

Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad stated that the Muslim Ummah needs unity and must move forward as one nation. He added that the country’s armed forces stand firmly by Pakistan. He further said that attempts are being made to spread chaos in the country, but Pakistan’s narrative has been made the voice of every household, and external conspiracies will not be allowed to succeed.
