Start footballer Lionel Messi has etched another record into football history, becoming only the second player ever to reach 900 career goals, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Argentine icon achieved the milestone while representing Inter Miami CF in a CONCACAF Champions League clash against Nashville SC Messi scored during the match, which concluded in a 1-1 draw, though the result was largely overshadowed by his landmark achievement.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, Messi’s latest goal adds to a remarkable career spanning over two decades, further solidifying his place among football’s elite goal scorers.

38-year-old forward now scored 900 goals

The 38-year-old forward has now scored 900 goals over a professional career spanning 21 years. He netted his first senior goal in 2005 at the age of 17 while playing for FC Barcelona, marking the beginning of one of football’s most prolific scoring journeys.

According to reports, Messi reached the milestone in his 1,142nd professional appearance, fewer matches than Ronaldo, who achieved his 900th goal in 1,236 games and has since extended his tally to 965 goals, remaining the all-time leading scorer. Ronaldo is currently pursuing the unprecedented target of 1,000 career goals.

Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano praised Messi’s performance, describing it as extraordinary and noting that such consistency and longevity are difficult to comprehend. He added that Messi’s uniqueness lies in his ability to continue delivering at the highest level over such an extended period.

Messi’s 900-goal milestone further cements his status among the greatest goal scorers in football history, adding another chapter to a career already filled with records, trophies, and defining moments.

It is worth mentioning here that Football’s world governing body, FIFA, has unveiled the official poster for the 2026 World Cup. The poster celebrates the culture and creativity of the host nations, Canada, Mexico and the United States.

It serves as the final and most significant piece in the FIFA World Cup 2026 poster collection, complementing the posters of the 16 host cities that were released last year.

For the first time in history, artists from three different countries, Carson Ting (Canada), Minerva GM (Mexico), and Hank Willis Thomas (USA), collaborated to create the official poster.
