NDMA cautions citizens as thunderstorms expected in multiple areas

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a thunderstorm warning across multiple regions of the country for the next 12 to 14 hours.

According to the advisory, several areas are likely to experience rainfall accompanied by strong, gusty winds. The NDMA has also indicated a risk of hailstorms in many parts of the country, with the possibility of hail occurring across all four provinces.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged citizens to remain cautious as weather conditions may become severe in the coming hours.

Possible flood situation expected in areas

Possible flood situation expected in Turbat, Kech, Gwadar, Khuzdar, Zhob, and Lasbela in Balochistan. Similarly, flood warnings have been issued for Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Parachinar, Peshawar, Mardan, and Swabi in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The alert further states that water accumulation and flooding may occur in urban and low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock and Chakwal.

It has also been reported that snowfall, along with rain is expected in the mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which may affect traffic flow. The NDMA has warned that the risk of landslides may increase due to continuous rainfall. The authority has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and to drive with caution.

Panjgur, Turbat, Kech, Awaran, the Makran Coast (Gwadar, Pasni, Ormara), Lasbela, Khuzdar, Kharan, Chagai, Dalbandin, Kalat, Sibi, Kohlu, Barkhan, Lower Abad, Chagai, Chughtai, and Kalat are included in the alert.

In addition, rain with strong winds, along with snowfall in mountainous areas, is expected in Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Noshki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, and Mastung.

Under this weather system, landslides are possible in vulnerable areas of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Flooding is also possible in local rivers across Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
