The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has issued urgent instructions as thunderstorms are forecast across Sindh, including Karachi, until March 29.
All authorities and operational staff at Jinnah International Airport have been advised to remain on high alert to ensure passenger safety and smooth airport operations.
The PAA has directed authorities to inspect the runway surfaces and keep drainage channels clear to prevent major accidents. Additionally, the PAA has instructed the deployment of bird shooters and fumigation to manage birds and insects.
Earlier, the Meteorological Department had also issued an alert regarding a new weather system expected to bring rain to Sindh. According to the alert, rainfall is likely to continue in various parts of the province until March 29.
The Meteorological Department reported intermittent rain in many cities of Sindh, including Karachi. Light rain and drizzle are expected in Karachi on Friday, with the possibility of thunderstorms and strong winds in some areas.
The department further stated that there will be a temporary break in the weather on March 27, but rain may return on March 28 and 29. The city’s temperature is expected to reach up to 32°C. Currently, the humidity is 79%, and the winds are blowing at 11 km/h.
It is worth mentioning here that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) had earlier issued a thunderstorm warning across multiple regions.
According to the advisory, several areas are likely to experience rainfall accompanied by strong, gusty winds. The NDMA has also indicated a risk of hailstorms in many parts of the country, with the possibility of hail occurring across all four provinces.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged citizens to remain cautious as weather conditions may become severe in the coming hours.
Possible flood situation expected in Turbat, Kech, Gwadar, Khuzdar, Zhob, and Lasbela in Balochistan. Similarly, flood warnings have been issued for Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Parachinar, Peshawar, Mardan, and Swabi in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
