The gas cylinder prices in Pakistan have increased massively for all citizens who are already struggling due to the gas outage.
The new average price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is now between Rs3,900 and Rs5,135 per 11.67 kg cylinder.
This week, gas outage highly impacted households, especially in Punjab, which led to a significant increase in gas cylinder prices.
Old gas cylinder prices
Prior to this development, the gas cylinder’s maximum price was around Rs4,000.
The surge in prices has now put a lot of pressure on the lower middle class of Pakistan.
LPG requirement in Pakistan
According to reports, due to Eid, gas supply from Iran has slowed.
According to the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, around 20,000 tonnes of LPG arrived in Pakistan during March.
It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan’s total annual LPG demand stands at around 2 million tonnes, with 1.2 million tonnes imported and 800,000 tonnes produced locally.
Inflation in Pakistan
Short-term inflation in Pakistan saw a noticeable increase in the final week of March, with rising food and energy prices adding pressure on household budgets.
Data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics showed that the Sensitive Price Indicator rose by 0.97 perc ent for the week ended March 26, 2026. The weekly reading reflects changes in the prices of essential items commonly used by households.
The increase was largely driven by sharp jumps in kitchen staples. Onion prices surged by over 18 per cent, while tomatoes rose more than 11 per cent during the week. Liquefied petroleum gas also recorded a steep increase of around 10 per cent, adding to the burden on domestic consumers.
