KP govt announces one-month tax relief for transport

The government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has declared a one-month waiver on both schedule tax and stand tax for the transport sector as part of its relief initiatives for passengers, in response to concerns regarding elevated fares.

This decision was made during a significant video-link meeting led by Riaz Khan Mehsud, the Commissioner of Peshawar Division and Chairman of the Regional Transport Authority.

The meeting included the Deputy Commissioners from all five districts within the Peshawar Division: Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mohmand Tribal District, and Khyber District, as well as the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority.

During the meeting, participants thoroughly examined the relief package introduced by the provincial government for the transport sector.

According to government directives, the waiver on both schedule tax and stand tax for transport will be applicable for one month across all KP districts.

Transporters are required to ensure that the full benefits of this relief are passed on to passengers by appropriately lowering fares.

Transporters have been explicitly instructed to display the official government-approved fare list prominently on the front of each vehicle, allowing passengers to easily access the fixed rates.

The meeting was organised following the Commissioner’s recent inspection of passenger stands along GT Road and the motorway in Peshawar.

The main goal is to guarantee consistent enforcement of fare reductions across all districts and to maximise relief for the general public.

KP govt announces new operating hours for markets

Earlier, the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa instructed that market timings be restricted across the province.

Under the new orders, markets in divisional headquarters will close at 9:00 PM, while markets in other districts will shut down at 8:00 PM.

The decision is part of broader efforts to manage energy consumption more efficiently across the province.
