Committee formed to investigate exam centre shifts

exam centre shifts

Ismail Rahu, Sindh Minister for Universities and Boards, has taken notice of the controversial changes in the examination centres of the Matric board, a private media outlet reported.

An immediate report is now sought by the provincial minister from the Secretary of Universities and relevant education boards.

Ismail Rahi has also decided to formulate a fact-finding committee so the matter can be investigated thoroughly.

Ismail Rahu stated, “A comprehensive report will be submitted once the inquiry is complete.”

The All-Sindh Private Schools and Colleges Association (ASPSCA) earlier had voiced serious reservations regarding the Board of Secondary Education Karachi’s (BSEK) administrative failures.

It also showed reservations against the decision to allow matric students to appear at matric exam centre of their choice.

The matric exams commenced this Friday and BSEK’s administrative performance was labelled by the ASPSCA as unsatisfactory and faulty.

ASPSCA General Secretary and the Chairman Hyder Ali gave a joint statement in which they asserted that the last-minute determination of exam centres and frequent changes serve as definitive proof of misadministration by the board.

Issues Raised by ASPSCA:

It was highlighted by the association that recurring software faults and issues with the submission of enrolment and examination forms reflect that the board’s digital infrastructure has collapsed.

The ASPSCA also alleges that cheating mafia and corruption were facilitated by establishing small centres and then assigning over 1000 students to those centres.

The students were allowed to choose their own exam centres, and this practice was described as unfruitful. It also resulted in the loss of precious administrative resources.

The competency of the Controller of examination was questioned by the Controller of examinations, suggesting that a lack of geographical awareness and a lack of experience of the city has led to a breakdown of the examination system.

At the end it was emphasised by the ASPSCA that the administrative chaos has left thousands of students with unnecessary mental distress. Their right to a peaceful examination was violated.
