Katy Perry is being investigated in Australia following sexual assault allegations made by actor Ruby Rose, according to police and media reports on Wednesday. Katy Perry’s representatives have strongly denied all the accusations.
Ruby Rose, known for her role in the TV series Orange Is the New Black, claimed in a series of social media posts that were later deleted that Katy Perry assaulted her in a Melbourne nightclub nearly two decades ago. The posts spread widely online before being removed.
Rose has said that she has already submitted formal reports to the police. She also added that she can no longer speak publicly about the matter while the investigation is ongoing. However, Perry’s team has rejected all claims and said they are false.
According to a statement from AFP, Victoria state police confirmed they are looking into the sexual assault case that is believed to have taken place in Melbourne in 2010.
Police did not name Katy Perry directly, but said the investigation is still ongoing. They also stated that it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage.
“As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage,” a police spokesperson said.
Katy Perry’s representative also issued a strong denial in a statement to entertainment magazine Variety.
They said the allegations shared on social media by Ruby Rose are completely false and harmful. They described them as “dangerous and reckless lies.”
The statement also added that Ruby Rose has previously made serious allegations against other individuals, which were also denied.
Katy Perry is a world-famous singer known for major hit songs like Roar, Hot n Cold, and I Kissed a Girl.
