An account on the social media platform X, called BRICS News, @BRICSinfo, has been identified for allegedly spreading misleading information and misguiding users by appearing similar to an official BRICS-related handle on Tuesday.
According to the reports, the account is not an official government or BRICS account. Even though it misleadingly mentions this in its bio.

However, many casual users can still mistake it for an official source due to its name and its style of posting.
The account is also linked by online researchers to a cryptocurrency focused platform called Watcher Guru. It also posts real time updates on Bitcoin, Ethereum, DeFi, and financial markets.
The reports further claim that the platform’s founder and team are of Indian origin. According to the reports, this has also led to questioning the account’s neutrality.

During the recent US Iran tensions, the account reportedly shared posts that included speculation and references to China and Russia.

The reports say that this could also contribute to misinformation and diplomatic confusion among people.
The reports further urged that the matter should be looked into and that the platform should take action against accounts that are impersonating or misleading the users by presenting themselves as official BRICS related sources.
In addition to this, users have been advised to only believe the official accounts and sources. Other information can prove to be misleading and can even cause chaos in some cases.
India running fake “China in English”
Details about a fake account spreading fabricated and misleading information have emerged recently as well. This account pretends to be a Chinese account and is called ‘China in English‘.
However, its location has been revealed to be somewhere in West Asia, which indicates the account is being run possibly from Israel, India or another country in the region, according to the reports.
This fake news spread by this account has been reported and circulated by the main news channels and officials as well.
