Crowds could return for PSL playoffs as key proposal reaches PM office

PSL franchise owners appeal PM to allow fans back into stadiums

There is positive news for Pakistan Super League (PSL) fans, as a proposal to allow spectators into stadiums during the playoff stage is currently under review.

According to media reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has formally submitted the proposal to the Prime Minister’s Office. The final decision will be made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The Prime Minister is keen to restore the vibrant and energetic atmosphere of stadiums during the crucial playoff matches. In this regard, a high-level meeting is expected between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

The Interior Minister is also likely to attend the meeting, where important progress on the matter is anticipated. An official announcement is expected following the meeting.

If the Prime Minister approves, an immediate action plan will be prepared in collaboration with the Punjab government. Instructions will then be issued to complete arrangements for welcoming fans at Gaddafi Stadium as soon as the green signal is received. According to sources, an official announcement is also expected after the meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Mohsin Naqvi.

It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise owners had earlier urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to allow fans back into stadiums, saying the tournament feels incomplete without live crowds.
Several team owners took to social media, calling for permission to reopen stadiums to spectators and restore the electric atmosphere that defines the PSL, according to media reports.

Lahore Qalandars owner Atif Rana said the league is a celebration of Pakistan cricket but lacks its true spirit without fans. He appealed to both the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister to permit the return of spectators.
Multan Sultans owner Gohar Shah echoed the sentiment, urging authorities to take action and saying, ” We all want the fans to come back. Rawalpindi team owner Ahsan Tahir stated, “There is no cricket without fans. Cricket is the legacy of the Pakistani people, and it thrives on their passion.”
