Google has added a new addition to Google Gemini allowing its users to instantly create downloadable files directly from a chat. Instead of copying and formatting text manually, users can now command Gemini to generate files such as Microsoft Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PDFs, CSV files, Markdown documents, text files, and LaTeX files.
The feature works on both web and mobile versions of Gemini and is also available for Google Workspace users. Users simply type what they need and Gemini automatically creates the file in the requested format, ready to download and use.
One of the most important additions is support for LaTeX, which is widely used by researchers, engineers, scientists, and students for writing technical and academic papers. Gemini can format scientific documents and even create diagrams for LaTeX-supported outputs.
Google says the goal is to remove the extra steps people normally take when using AI tools, such as copying, pasting, and converting. Earlier updates already allowed Gemini to help with document formatting, structured writing, and creating polished drafts that match existing layouts and styles.
Resultantly, this new feature turns Gemini from a simple chatbot into a more complete productivity tool that is able to create professional documents quickly and directly from user prompts.
Earlier, Google officially launched Gmail into the new age of artificial intelligence, with the announcement of a suite of Gemini-powered features that aim to help transform full inboxes into smart and proactive assistants.
In a blog post announcing the update, the tech giant said that the new tools would be rolling out in phases with some features switched on by default. At the centre of the upgrade is AI-generated summaries, which are designed to help people quickly make sense of lengthy and complex email threads.
“When you open up an email with dozens of replies, Gmail synthesises the entire conversation into a short summary of key points,” Google said. The company described the move as part of its general effort to include Gmail in the “Gemini era.”
Google acknowledged how inboxes are full of great information but getting to it is often time-consuming. Even once on the right emails, users are often left flipping through message chains for answers. In order to resolve this, Google is rolling out “AI Overviews.”
