Govt launches electric bike scheme for teachers

electric bike scheme teachers

The government of Punjab has launched a new electric bike scheme for teachers on interest-free installments, as part of efforts to ease commuting costs.

Officials said the programme will allow teachers to purchase electric bikes with monthly payments expected to range between Rs3,600 and Rs4,200.

The scheme is also being presented as a step towards promoting environmentally friendly transport.

Under the plan, each bike is expected to cost between Rs200,000 and Rs250,000.

The provincial government will cover around 30 to 40 per cent of the price as a subsidy, with the remaining amount to be paid by teachers over a period of two to three years.

Authorities say the initiative is aimed at supporting teachers who face daily travel challenges, particularly in remote and semi-urban areas where transport options can be limited.

Applications for the scheme will be submitted online through the Punjab Teachers Foundation.

Applicants will be required to provide documents including their national identity card, service certificate, driving licence and a photograph.

Once applications are submitted, candidates will receive a verification slip, and final eligibility will be communicated through SMS or email.

Officials say the scheme will be rolled out in phases after the registration process is completed.

The government says the programme forms part of wider efforts to support teachers and improve transport options within the education sector.

Punjab CM announces development package for Kacha region

The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has announced a development package worth Rs23 billion aimed at improving infrastructure, security and employment in the Kacha region.

The initiative includes projects in education, health, transport and law enforcement.

Officials said the plan is designed to strengthen state presence in the area and support local communities.

As part of the package, the government will launch an agriculture scheme called “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar”.

Under the programme, around 14,500 acres of state land will be allocated to residents for farming.

Ms Nawaz said the Kacha area had remained peaceful over the past five months, describing it as a period in which government authority had been more firmly established.

Funding has been divided across several sectors.
