The Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has paid tribute to workers on the occasion of International Labour Day.
Shehbaz Sharif, on May 1, released a message praising the labourers’ role in supporting the country’s economy and society.
In a message marking the day, PM Shehbaz said Pakistan will be observing Labour Day today alongside other countries, recognising the contributions of the working class.
He said the efforts and resilience of workers help keep daily life running and described them as deserving of recognition for their dedication.
He added that workers across different sectors demonstrate strength by facing challenges with dignity.
Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted the role of skilled labour, saying it reflects the country’s capacity and professional ability.
He mentioned the overseas workers by saying that millions of Pakistanis working abroad contribute significantly to the national economy.
PM Shehbaz said overseas workers act as representatives of the country and that the income they send home remains an important source of support.

According to the prime minister, their contribution plays a role in maintaining economic stability.
The government, he said, is taking steps to support those seeking employment overseas.
These include providing training to international standards, improving language skills and offering certification to help workers secure jobs abroad.
He added that efforts are also underway to improve facilities for workers and their families.
Shehbaz Sharif called on the public to renew their commitment to protecting workers’ rights, stressing the importance of fair treatment and support for the labour force.
May 1 is celebrated as the ‘Labour Day’ all across the world, honouring the contributions and work done by the labourers.
The Federal government has already released a notification of the holiday on May 1.
All government and private offices, educational institutions, and markets will remain closed in Pakistan.
The government of Sindh has also announced a public holiday on May 1 to observe ‘Labour Day’ within the province.
According to the official notification by the authorities, there will be a public holiday all across Sindh on Friday, May 1.
All of the government offices, educational institutions, and other public departments will remain completely closed, as per the notification issued.
The notification specifically notifies that the public holiday will be for all the government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils under the administrative control of the provincial government, except for essential services.
