Pakistan and China signed a series of agreements on Friday aimed at strengthening cooperation in industry, healthcare and livestock, during President Asif Ali Zardari’s ongoing visit to Beijing.
The agreements include one joint venture and two Memorandums of Understanding, with a focus on construction machinery, medical technology and animal health.
According to a statement issued by the Pakistan Peoples Party, one MoU was signed between Al-Hassan Trade Establishment, Sanyi International Development and Henan Jialong International Technology. The partnership is expected to improve the supply of construction machinery and equipment linked to projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
The statement added that the three sides will also explore opportunities to set up manufacturing units in Pakistan, which could help support local industry and create jobs.
Focus on healthcare and livestock
In the healthcare sector, Dr Ziauddin Hospital signed an agreement with Shenzhen Wei Bang Technology to introduce advanced medical systems. The cooperation aims to support the use of intelligent medical robots in clinical treatment, which could improve patient care and hospital efficiency.
Separately, both sides agreed on a joint project to supply vaccines for animal diseases in Pakistan, including foot-and-mouth disease. The initiative is expected to support the livestock sector, which plays a key role in the country’s rural economy.
The agreement also includes plans for future work on track and trace systems for animals. This system could help monitor livestock health and improve disease control across the country.
President Zardari, who arrived in China on April 25 for a week-long visit, witnessed the signing ceremony. The visit is part of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries and comes as Pakistan and China mark 75 years of diplomatic relations this year.
Officials say the latest agreements reflect continued efforts by both countries to expand cooperation in key sectors and deepen their long-standing partnership.
