Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam has said that Pakistan possesses abundant cricketing talent, but it must be properly identified and utilised according to formats.
Speaking at a press conference, he stressed the importance of recognising which players are best suited for each format.
He added that T20 talent should not be unnecessarily tested, and that young cricketers should be nurtured and provided with consistent opportunities to develop.
Babar Azam acknowledged that the team’s performances have not fully met the expectations of the public or his own standards. He said he remains focused on his individual performance and avoids reacting to criticism, noting that scrutiny continues regardless of results. He further stated that, like every captain, he also dreams of lifting the Pakistan Super League championship trophy.
Responding to a question, he stated Hyderabad faced difficulties at the start, but later played good cricket. The team performed well throughout the tournament, with every player contributing. He also praised Mendis, calling him a highly experienced player whose presence is beneficial for the team.
Babar Azam added that his journey with Peshawar Zalmi has been very good. The team has played strong cricket in all three departments. He noted that every match is a pressure game, and the PSL final comes with its own unique pressure.
