Pakistani tennis player Mohammad Shoaib Khan has lifted the ITF Futures title, marking a significant milestone for Pakistan’s tennis scene after a gap of 20 years.
In a closely contested final played in Islamabad, Shoaib delivered a strong performance to defeat Russia’s Nikita Ianin. The match proved to be a thriller, with Shoaib prevailing 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 after a hard-fought battle.
Shoaib’s victory in the ITF Men’s Futures M-15 (Leg-1) final is being hailed as a major achievement, highlighting a resurgence of competitive tennis talent in Pakistan on the international stage.
After 20 years, a Pakistani player reached the final of an ITF Futures. Pakistan Tennis Federation President Aisam-ul-Haq and Secretary Colonel Zia Tufail congratulated Mohammad Shoaib on his brilliant success.
The Swedish ambassador specially attended the closing ceremony, while PTF President Aisam-ul-Haq said that today is a big day for tennis and sports lovers in Pakistan, Mohammad Shoaib Khan has created history.
It is worth mentioning here that Rising Pakistani tennis talent Mohammad Shoaib on Saturday delivered a standout performance to become the first player from the country in 19 years to reach the final of an ITF Futures event.
Competing at the PTF Complex courts on Saturday, Shoaib produced a dominant display in the semifinals, overpowering China’s Fenming Meng in straight sets. The Pakistani star barely put a foot wrong, securing a commanding 6-1, 6-1 win in a match that remained one-sided from start to finish.
Shoaib controlled proceedings with aggressive baseline play, precise shot-making, and exceptional court movement. His composed and clinical performance left his opponent struggling to respond, while the home crowd responded with loud support throughout the match.
