The government of Punjab would likely announce the summer vacations earlier than before due to the rising temperature within the province.
The recent heatwave alerts and the expected date of Eid-ul-Azha might lead towards the early announcement of summer vacation in Punjab.
As per the new academic calendar, the official date for the summer holidays is June 1.
While the expected heatwave and Eid holidays may cause the educational institutions to be closed from May 27.
The officials have not released any kind of notification to confirm this, yet meetings are underway between the government authorities and educational institutions discussing the weather patterns and academic requirements.
The Education Minister of Punjab, Rana Sikandar Hayat, has proposed to reduce both the summer and winter vacations in order to compensate for academic loss and increase the number of instructional days from 180 to 190 annually.
On the other hand, the private educational institutions have requested the provincial government to allow them to commence morning summer camps from 07:00am to 10:00am during the summer holidays.
This will help to fill the educational gap created due to vacations, said the private organisations.

The Education Department said, “The final decision regarding summer vacations will be announced after reviewing weather conditions and relevant administrative inputs, including guidance from the moon sighting committee for Eid holidays.”
They have asked the parents and students to stay updated, as the weather can change, and yet the ball is in the court of the government.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), have issued a weather advisory stating that the temperature may rise in most of the districts of Punjab from May 7 to May 11.
The department also warned about a heatwave during this timeline.
PDMA has also advised the parents and the students to remain careful and to protect themselves from the extreme weather conditions.
