National Athletics Championship put on hold amid severe weather conditions

National Athletics Championship put on hold

The National Athletics Championship, originally scheduled to take place in Karachi from May 14 to 17, has been postponed due to extreme weather conditions.

According to the Athletics Federation, two departments had formally requested a delay, citing severe heat across the city. However, officials noted that most participating units were prepared to compete according to the original schedule before the decision was made.

Further details, including revised dates for the championship, are expected to be announced after consultations with relevant stakeholders.

Federation officials stated that the organising committee had delegated the authority to decide new dates to the President of the Athletics Federation, who later reviewed the situation and made the final decision to postpone the championship.

The 54th National Athletics Championship is now likely to be held in October or November, although the final dates have yet to be announced.

The federation emphasised that the health and safety of athletes, as well as providing a safe playing environment, were the top priorities, given the extremely high temperatures in Karachi.

Officials added that new dates will be finalised after consultations with all relevant institutions to ensure the event is conducted in a safer and more suitable environment.
