Meta has officially announced that Meta Connect 2026 is scheduled for September 23-24 in San Francisco.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s teaser suggests that the company intends to make major announcements about smart glasses, AI-driven hardware, and direct competition with Apple’s dominance in the wearable market.
The message shared by Zuckerberg assures attendees of “demos, special guests, AI updates, and improved wifi,” along with a fifth item that remains unknown.
A blog post from the company also indicated that Meta will “reveal the latest in VR, wearables, metaverse, and AI” during the event.
Aside from a scratched-out pair of sunglasses and some vague hints, there is little information available regarding what Meta intends to present at Connect 2026.
There have been speculations that Meta is developing a watch to rival the Apple Watch.
Meta transfers top engineers to AI Engineering unit
In April, Meta began mandatory transfers of its top software engineers into the Applied AI Engineering unit, as stated in an internal memo from Maher Saba.
What began as a voluntary process now became compulsory, reflecting the unit’s emergence as one of the company’s top priorities.
The Applied AI unit is responsible for developing tools and assessments for the creation of autonomous AI agents that can code, test, and deliver products with minimal human intervention.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg also indicated that 2026 will be a pivotal year for AI, fundamentally transforming work at Meta, with streamlined teams and AI-integrated tools enhancing productivity.
