The government of Sindh has fixed a new flour price in the provincial capital, Karachi.

Flour prices have increased in Karachi after local authorities issued revised official rates for different categories of flour across the city.

According to an official notification issued on Wednesday by Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi, the wholesale price of No. 2.5 flour has been fixed at Rs110 per kilogram, while the retail price has been set at Rs113 per kilogram.

The notification also set new rates for fine flour, with wholesale prices fixed at Rs118 per kilogram and retail prices at Rs121 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, chakki flour produced by flour mills will now be sold at Rs145 per kilogram.

Officials said the revised prices had come into effect immediately.

The commissioner directed shopkeepers across the city to display official price lists prominently inside their stores and warned that legal action would be taken against businesses violating the new rates or failing to display the lists.

The latest revision comes only months after flour prices had fallen sharply following the arrival of the new wheat crop earlier this year.

In March, flour mill owners announced reductions in flour prices after wheat prices dropped in local markets. According to industry figures at the time, wheat prices declined from Rs95 per kilogram to Rs85 per kilogram, leading to lower flour prices for consumers.

The price of No. 2.5 flour in Karachi had fallen from Rs107 per kilogram to Rs95 per kilogram, while fine flour prices declined from Rs126 per kilogram to Rs114 per kilogram.

Industry experts had attributed the earlier decline to improved wheat supply and expectations of greater market stability after the harvest season.

However, the newly announced official rates indicate another upward adjustment in flour prices, adding to concerns among consumers already facing pressure from persistent inflation and rising household expenses across Pakistan.
